Netflix is expanding its adult animation lineup with Bass X Machina, a gritty new series blending steampunk, western, and supernatural horror elements. The show premieres October 6, 2026, and is led by acclaimed actor Brian Tyree Henry, who both stars in and executive produces the project.

Set in a chaotic frontier where outlaw gangs, mechanical threats, and otherworldly forces collide, the story centers on Bass, a father driven to extreme measures to protect his family. As he takes on the roles of judge, jury, and executioner, his pursuit of justice begins to threaten the very people he hopes to save, creating a moral tension at the heart of the narrative.

Henry is joined by an ensemble voice cast that includes Janelle Monáe as Glory, Tati Gabrielle as Dana, Cree Summer as Ahni, Chaske Spencer as Lighthorse, Currie Graham as Rivenbark, and Starletta DuPois as Etta.

The series is executive produced by Henry alongside LeSean Thomas, Jennifer Wiley-Moxley, and Chad Handley. Animation production is handled by Studio Mir, the powerhouse studio known for dynamic action-driven animation, while the original score comes from Roman GianArthur and Nate Wonder under the Wondaland banner.

Bass X Machina joins a growing roster of mature animated programming on Netflix, alongside titles such as Arcane, Blue Eye Samurai, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, and Devil May Cry, reflecting the platform’s continued investment in high-quality animated storytelling for adult audiences.

With its genre fusion, high-profile cast, and strong creative team, the series positions itself as one of the more ambitious animated releases arriving this fall.
